Medium Travel Press

$45.00

This is our medium size travel/storage flower press. Measuring 5 1/2" x 9 1/4" , it is made of solid 1" red oak stock*. We make our presses by hand from start to finish with care and love. The medium press is the press I choose when I'm going out and want to keep everything in a backpack or smaller bag. Even if I don't plan to, I can always press just in case, but doesn't take up as much room as our standard press. It's still large enough to press most any flower and keep plenty of stem intact, as well.

The main benefit of this design for travel and storage is the lack of bolts. For travel, this means stowing your press in your bag or suitcase without bolts tearing up your luggage. For storage the presses become easily stackable. You can also use this as you would any other flower press, there are some who actually prefer the cinch straps to bolts and they are perfectly capable of producing beautiful finished flowers.

What sets our press apart:

- Length. Even though it's not a large press, we love pressing flowers with lots of stem intact for a dramatic finished flower. The profile of our medium press is inspired by vintage presses.

- 1" solid wood stock. Maybe overkill, but we like the peace of mind, as well as the heirloom feel. It's something we'll pass down to our kids.

- Natural finish. We use shellac to finish our presses. Naturally made by the lac bug, shellac has been used to finish wood for hundreds of years, and is even used to coat candy. We mix our own shellac at home using only pure shellac flakes and Everclear (190 proof grain alcohol) and use a French polishing method to apply. The antique brown finish is made using steel wool soaked in vinegar. When applied to the wood, it oxidizes and the dark finish is acheived.

Pressing flowers is a great way to slow down and connect with nature. The resulting pressed flowers can be used in tons of crafts, art projects, or even food garnishes! This would make a perfect gift for those gardeners and nature lovers in your life.

These are handmade out of natural materials, so wood will vary in color and grain, and small imperfections are possible, but we would only ever ship out something we'd be happy receiving ourselves.

Includes two solid oak pieces, two velcro cinch straps, 7 sheets of cardboard, 12 sheets chipboard. Does not include paper, but is made for standard 8.5"x11" printer paper.

Approximate Dimensions: 5 1/2" x 9 1/4"

*For those not familiar with dimensional lumber, 1" stock is actually 3/4" thick

*Local Pickup option at Checkout if you’re local to the Lawrence area.
